Peruvian entrepreneur creates "Alinti Bro," a lamp that generates electric light through photosynthesis.
The lamp aims to generate energy in remote communities. The project was developed with co-financing from the ProInnóvate program of the Ministry of Production.
Peruvian entrepreneur Hernán Asto Cabezas, a young man from Ayacucho and CEO of Alinti, has created an innovative and eco-friendly portable lamp that operates on the energy of plants, released through the process of photosynthesis. In this way, "he has managed to bring the benefits of electric light to the most remote communities that do not have this basic service," ProInnóvate stated in a press release.
For more than 7 years, Asto has been a researcher in a social project aimed at developing models, equipment, or devices that allow bringing renewable energy to families that still use candles, firewood, and other materials to generate light sources.
Thanks to co-financing from the ProInnóvate program of the Ministry of Production (Produce), Asto developed "Alinti Bro", this lighting device that operates based on three sources of natural renewable energy: a special plant with roots that contain a high percentage of glucose (sugars) and phytoremediators, electrogenic microorganisms, and a photovoltaic system.
For the execution of this project, the entrepreneur applied with his company Alinti to the ProInnóvate Business Innovation contest for Microenterprises, which granted him non-reimbursable co-financing (that is, it is not a credit or a loan) in 2021. Since then, he has made various prototypes and validations of this lamp in its various versions.
"Alinti Bro" works through a photosynthesis process that takes place in the lamp, where the plants generate their organic food that, when in contact with the earth's microorganisms, release electrons (biological current). These are conducted through nanowires and deposited in a three-level biological battery, generating a flow of current.
